Welcome

Reclaimed as part of a massive rehabilitation and conservation project, Erindi Private Game Reserve is a treasure chest of naturally occurring Namibian wildlife and plant life.

Conservation initiatives since 1998 have ensured the recovery and ecological balance between vegetation, herbivores and predators, while careful ongoing management ensures that the numbers and diversity of species lead to sustainable land utilisation and benefits for all in the area.

We pride ourselves on providing rich eco-experiences from the comfort of Old Traders Lodge base camp. We offer numerous activities where guests can explore the untouched beauty of our vast reserve and take part in interesting and informative conservation based activities.

When back at the lodge, you’ll have all the creature comforts to make your stay extra comfy and memorable.

Thank you for choosing Erindi. We wish you a relaxed and rejuvenating time in our natural wonderland. Kindly enquire at reception if there is anything you need to make your stay with us more comfortable.

Please share your Erindi experience.

Erindi history

Back in the 1970’s and 80’s, Erindi was an overstocked and overgrazed cattle farm, which caused severe damage to the natural vegetation.

Founders Gert Joubert, and his brother Chris, phased out cattle farming entirely and re-introduced, in fairly large numbers, numerous species that once occurred naturally in the area.

Thereafter, Erindi operated as a hunting outfitter for a short period. When hunting was finally halted in 2007, the reserve was transformed into an ecotourism and conservation venture.

The first challenge was re-gaining the trust of the animals and convincing them to allow people into their secretive and mysterious world. This was achieved through patient habituation, which finally led to the animals being more relaxed, allowing vehicles to get close enough for game viewing.

Over the years, with continuous fieldwork and conservation programs, Erindi has successfully transformed into one of the most bio-diverse, natural destinations in Namibia.
